What is a Spirit House?

I get a lot of questions about the name of my business and why I chose “Spirit House.”

It comes back to the fundamental idea that our homes have immense potential to be havens for all that is the most precious, authentic, and vibrant about ourselves. That our homes can help us live in alignment with who we truly are - and who we want to become.

But only if we decide to make it so.

A Spirit House is a home that has been cultivated into a place that supports your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being.

It is a home that tells your story while gently calling you to step boldly into your next chapter.

It celebrates your essence - your spirit - and provides the space for you to stay connected to your inner knowing.

The furnishings support your comfort and ease of motion. The layout promotes flow and has places for the activities you cherish most.

It’s ordered and free from emotionally-draining clutter. You’re not burdened by having too much stuff, or possessions pouring out from every closet and cabinet leaving you feeling overwhelmed. Throughout the home, organizational systems that fit the way your brain works make it easy to maintain this quality of order.

When you look around, you feel a sense of calm, contentment, inspiration, and possibility. The space fosters a sense of joy and delight, and you are surrounded by beauty and meaning.

Your Spirit House invites your inner muse to play by making space for creativity, art, crafts, writing, cooking - whatever your chosen modality.

The colors, patterns, and themes anchor you to the people, places, and values you cherish.

Large or small, it feels as though there is space to breathe, move, and dream.

You’ve found subtle ways to integrate elements from the natural world into this place. It may be plants, scents, images, or natural materials. Regardless of the form that nature takes here, its presence keeps you grounded and nourished, because you are, after all, a child of the Earth.

The energy in the home is clear and light. You’ve made time to develop and maintain a relationship with this place. You know that even though you may not live here forever, it is the container for your life at this time. It is your personal sanctuary amongst the chaos of the world, and you tend to it on both physical and energetic levels. You may conduct simple ritual cleansings or space clearings to remove both physical and emotional residue that builds up over time.

You’ve created intentional spaces devoted to different energies in your life. From love to career, creativity to spirituality, you use the power of imagery, intention, and the physical environment to support the health of these life areas. This could take the form of formal altars, or subtle yet meaningful design decisions.

This place, this home, has been intentionally cultivated into a sacred container for your holistic wellbeing. Its power comes from YOU.

Because none of it is possible without a connection to your spirit.

This sense of inner connection… to your muse, your essence, your spirit - whatever you want to call it… THIS is the foundation of your Spirit House.

It is this connection that we build upon. That you can use as a compass to know how to decorate and design your home. How to work with different tools to support the energy you most need at any moment. And how to create a space that truly speaks to the most authentic parts of your being.

Your Spirit House looks and feels different than anyone else’s; it is as uniquely beautiful as you are.

It is a place you have cultivated to help you work towards a more abundant, liberated, creative, joyful experience of life.

It may seem like a lot to ask of four walls and a roof, but like I said, this place’s power doesn’t come from the lumber, the drywall, or the concrete that makes up the structure itself.

It comes from YOU.

So if you are ready to begin, your Spirit House is waiting to be discovered and cultivated.

It’s waiting for you to dream it into being.

And I’m here to help you, every step of the way.
